Masolino talks you about..   Masolino

Masolino was born here in Panicale in 1383. When he was 19 he moved to
Florence and after having worked with Ghiberti, Giovanni da Milano,
Michelino da Besozzo and Antonio da Ferrara, he attracted Cardinal Branda
Castiglioni's attention. The Cardinal led him to fame and so in 1420 he painted
the "Painting of Monaco", in 1421 "The Virgin Mary of Contini - Bonacossi",
in 1422 he frescoed the Cross Company Chapel of Empoli (Tuscany).

In 1423 he painted the beautiful "Virgin Mary of Brema" and therefore he
began to work in the Brancacci Chapel in the Carmine Church in Florence with
his friend - partner - rival Masaccio. In 1425 he moved to Hungary to fresco
some churches that the captain Filippo Buondelmonti degli Scolari made to
have been built. In 1427 he returned to Rome to fresco Santa Caterina Chapel in
the Church of San Clemente. In 1428 he painted, always in Rome, a "Triptych"
in Santa Maria Maggiore Church…..

Between 1431 and 1432 Masolino (that in od Italian means "of short stature"),
was in Umbria and frescoed the Landi Chapel in Panicale. In Perugia he painted
San Benedetto in the Church of San Pietro
Between 1433 and 1436, he painted his greatest masterpieces in Castiglione
Olona (Tuscany) while he was frescoing the Baptistery and the Collegiate
Church.

Masolino and Masaccio: two rival friends.

Masaccio (partner - student and Masolino's friend), gave birth to a new paintig
that confered a new light to the characters faces and movements. It was more
real, sensitive, like they had a soul. However the biggest disagreement between
the two was due to perspective learnt from Brunelleschi (artistic jealousy was
and is a daily matter). With Masolino the Gothic style came to an end and the
italian Reanaissance followed.
